Timeline Guide

How to use this timeline

The NICC timelines are developed to share insight on Dutch international cooperation and development. The timelines have been structured according to different themes (water, gender, education, agriculture, climate) and different countries (such as Bangladesh, and Yemen). Each timeline thus discusses a certain aspect of Dutch international cooperation and development

This topic timeline is about Global Citizenship. It seeks to record the history of Global Citizenship in Dutch development cooperation over the period 1945-2023 in the international context. It shows how Global Citizenship gained prominence across various thematic areas, looking at various aspects of international solidarity, Dutch involvement abroad, and more. The timeline is based on relevant policy and other documents as well as the experiences of the involved resource persons.

After the NCDO ceased operations in 2017, the NICC Foundation received a part of its collection, with the task of making it available to the public. One aspect of this work is building on the NCDO’s mission and their knowledge and expertise on global citizenship. The result of this work is this timeline.

Although we gathered a lot of information, our timelines are never completely finished. If you have input for one of our timelines, feel free to contact us! You can do so by sending an email to info@stichtingnicc.nl.
