70' Silent revolution

In the 1970's new technology introduced benefits. However, water over abstraction caused water tabel to fall

From the 70's onwards access to modern technology - pump technology and drilling/well construction techniques - made intensive groundwater abstraction possible.

Irrigated areas increased and water resources being supplied by deep groundwater aquifers. This caused the water table to fall between one and eight meters per year forcing new wells to be drilled ever deeper up to 800m depths.
