After Hurricane Mitch, 200 Rope pumps were installed in Bluefields with emergency aid.
After 2 years still 80% of the pumps were functioning. This stimulated the scaling and commercial production of Rope pumps in Nicaragua. In 2010 there were 70.000 Rope pumps installed, covering over 30% of rural water supply.
